Alligators Can’t Stand Butterflies

We all want to show our children the wonders of nature. But mice wearing booties and white gloves are far from accurate depictions of wildlife. For this reason the Morningside Books Wildlife series was created. Alligators Can’t Stand Butterflies is the first in that series.
Alligators Can’t Stand Butterflies is a whimsical look at animals in their native habitats with the question always asked,
“Who is looking at who?”
In “Alligators Can’t Stand Butterflies” the reader is taken through a series of six interconnected short stories. Set in the raw beauty of the Saint Marks Wildlife Refuge and the Florida Panhandle, the 50 page 8″ by 10″ full color book contains 72 realistic water color illustrations. At the end of each standalone chapter is a full page illustration depicting the finale of all the action the story has led to.
These drawings help lead the reader through each chapter by offering a colorful example of the characters portrayed. Alligators pretending to be logs quietly stalk ducks. Eagles dive on the water to catch fish. Wading birds chase hopping frogs across huge ponds. Black bears roam the piney woods looking for berries and acorns.
All of the stories are fun yet educational. Even the insects have a tale to tell as we examine the high speed buzz of dragonflies. All of the chapters share a common theme based on the annual migration of Monarch butterflies a major part of which takes place at the Saint Marks Wildlife refuge.
By the end of the book, butterflies and children meet for a grand autumn day.
