Welcome to The Children’s Bookstore. Here we have begun to assemble a collection of the most wonderful kid’s stories available anywhere in the world. These are all unique independently published books that are as exquisite in appearance as they are engaging in theme. Our books return the reader to a different age in the art of storytelling. Attention is given to both artistic and literary merit. Old fashioned values are the norm in all of our stories. You will not find example or mention of vulgarity. After all, these are books for children!

Kids stories online retailers such as Amazon and Barnes and Noble sell are almost always based on the same tired plot formulas. A central character goes on a little journey and the reader is meant to follow. Sometimes this basic approach works well such as in classic children’s books like Huckleberry Finn. More often though we are led along a path of “who cares.” All of our books are filled with adventure and surprises. There is always a strong central character or protagonist. In “Alligators Can’t Stand Butterlies” from the Morningside Books Wildlife series, the protagonist in each of the connected short stories are the flocks of migrating monarch butterflies.

In what is probably the most delightful of our children’s stories we introduce Bartram the beach mouse. Bartram, is a Gulf Coast Beach mouse realistically drawn by noted children’s books Illustrator Summer Joy Clancy. Beach mice are endangered and not without good reason, as Bartram faces the trials of mouse survival. During the course of a week in his natural sand dune habitat both Bartram and reader learn a lesson about miracles. This 20,000 word mousterpiece features 20 full color, full page original illustrations, each of which tells views an important scene from the story.

Children love animal stories and we love offering the best of these for sale. Take a look at some of the pages and pictures from our watercolor edition, “Alligators Can’t Stand Butterflies.” The book is loaded with accurately drawn yet fun to see images of birds, flowers and all of the other animals who reside at the Saint Marks Wildlife Refuge in swampy Florida. The book is a collection of 6 short stories, each of which depicts a different part of the wildlife refuge. At each chapter’s end, the comical part of the story is revealed offering readers a wonderful reward for “painlessly” learning.

It hard to say what length creates short stories for kids. When children are reading books like “Bartram and the Blue Morning Glory”, “The Heart of Nine Tigers” or “Alligators Can’t Stand Butterflies”, time roars by quickly. One of the special joys of childhood is being able to read wonderful stories such as these over and over, with each reading drawing the child closer to the story and its characters. In “The Heart of Nine Tigers” children can easily identify with young SuTai who though just 9 years old is fiercely determined to protect her home.

Choosing children’s short stories can be a little tricky. At first glance it seems as if a story that is 5000 thousand words long might take too long to read to a child on a school night. But the best stories such as these offered at The Children’s Bookstore are written so that once a child becomes drowsy the story can be continued on the following day or evening. The charming book, “Bartram and the Blue Morning Glory” is just such a book. This “mouse epic” is 20,000 words in length and filled with beautiful full color pencil illustrations of all the fun scenes from the story. The book is divided into chapters that sometimes resolve and sometimes leave a cliff hanger awaiting the following night.

We chose these titles in particular due to their strong positive moral themes. Our books teach courage and compassion. Our stories are gender neutral. Boys and girls alike equally enjoy all of these fabulous adventures.
